Isreal-Hamas War: Palestinian Ambassador Seeks Immediate Ceasefire

The Palestinian Ambassador To Nigeria, Abdullah Mohammed Shawesh, has called for immediate ceasefire in the Isreal-Hamas war, saying two women die every hour while many children are killed daily.

Speaking during a news conference, held yesterday, Sunday, January 28, in Lagos, Shawesh disclose that innocent Palestinian civilians are being killed for fun. He equally demanded an independent investigation commission to look into what happened not only on October 7 but also incidents that occured on October 5 and 6.

The envoy said the October 7 incident did not happen in a vacuum, nothing sadly that over 33,000 people had been killed, with many bodies already decomposing at the time the corpses we’re found.

Shawesh also called for humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza because of the starvation in the land as access to food and water had been blocked with many not able to eat for days.

He said, “Starvation is a real issue in Gaza. People are starving. My personal family is there. Every two or three days, when I have a chance to communicate with them through WhatsApp, they complain that they haven’t eaten for three days. This is very shocking. We can’t imagine that,” he lamented.

“Even the water system in Gaza is completely destroyed. To drink water in Gaza, you have to boil what’s available to make it a bit drinkable”.

He pointed out that Gaza is at present completely leveled, adding that tens of thousands of homes and buildings were now in rubble.

The diplomat stated that it is in the interest of all for the war to end.

He noted that the crisis between Isreal was not a Muslim vs Jewish thing, because the Palestinian population consisted of Muslims, Christians and Jewish.

Earlier, the Secretary General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, in his welcome address, stated that religion was insignificant in the Isreal-Hamas War, positing that the present situation should be looked at from the perspective of humanity and a humanitarian crisis.

“It is not a religious issue. It is about humanity, fairness and justice”, he said.

He maintained that NSCIA organised the interactive session purely due to the humanitarian crisis that the war has caused and the reason Christian and Muslim journalists were invited for the interactive session.
